Virgin jobs blow

Cable group Virgin Media has announced that it was axing around 2,200 jobs in the United Kingdom by 2012 in a radical restructuring of the group.
Managament said it would not start cutting jobs until the fourth quarter of 2009, with the majority of the role reductions taking place within 12 months.
The job cuts come as part of a group-wide overhaul following a review this year made in the wake of the firm’s formation by the 2006 merger of Telewest and ntl which created many duplicate positions within the group.
Virgin Media has a total of 76 offices across the United Kingdom with major bases in London, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Sheffield.
